    After serving in Vietnam in the United States Army, Tom began a career in the construction industry in 1972 with the Del E. Webb Corporation. Leaving Webb in 1980 as Manager of Commercial Operations, Tom took a position with The Wray Company, a commercial contractor and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Weyerhauser. He remained with The Wray Company as Vice President until 1990 when he founded Chestnut Construction Corporation in Tucson.
